Dr. Alexander's first book was a milestone in NDE experience and consciousness research. I went through a crisis in the 1980s, when no religious writings had any meaning for me. A friend suggested reading the early Desert Fathers and Jakob Boehme. I went on to read St John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, and others. Then I discovered Thomas Merton. I called him "the Monarch/Cliff notes to the early Desert Fathers."This second book by Dr. Alexander is as illuminating as those other works and deserves a place on my bookshelf beside them.
I have purchased this book for more than 10 people and will continue to share it with everyone who come into contact with. This book is so incredible that I can listen to it over and over again! A great message for sure! I listened to the first book "Proof of Heaven" by Eben Alexander and was so blown away by his experience as well as his ability to get his message across....this second book Map of Heaven is EVEN BETTER!! This is the book I use to introduce to everyone I share with. Then if they wish they can purchase the first one....it does not ruin anything to read this first....he is amazing!!
This book, although narrating a recent experience by a renowned physician and scholar, is also a restatement of ancient narratives from the eons of humanity's presence on Earth even before history existed. The tale of other realms from hence we all come from and where we all will return.Those stories tell of certain beings that reside in all realms at the same time and travel back and forth, up and down or wherever is here or there and are able to "tell" if that is possible in words, the stories of whence and here to all other beings who are stuck in just one place. In Jewish apocrypha these beings are called sar Happanim, angels of the Presence.Eben Alexander is but one of those so called sar Happanim who without ticket, immersed themselves on some of those immense journeys. A modern Enoch. A traveller much to our luck, for he is able to put his best intended meaning to accounts that no one less than who he is can do it.Take the travel to this unknown unknown places. Places that we would never know exist if for the joy of reading one of the best accounts of an impossible travel by an improbable witness's.
This book is not a recap of his previous book but rather a compilation of both historical and contemporary accounts of the things those who experience the next life can teach us. It's not a "physical" map of heaven; rather it delves into understandings that will help us all better navigate this life as we all proceed towards the next. Trying to organizing those "lessons," (or "gifts," as he calls them), which are overwhelming and essentially non-verbal when received, is a major accomplishment, and very well done here. Even if you are a skeptic as to the experience itself (I'm not a skeptic), the insights in this book are well worth your time and money.
I am so glad the ordered and disciplined mind of Eben A wrote this book! I have studied all this and more but I grow weary when I have to start at the beginning with beginner seekers of self knowledge? bless their happy making souls, I now have an "in a nutshell " book to point to that we are all connected throughout time space Etc and everything we become aware of enlivens and enriches ourselves and the whole !
